Thanks to the Owens & Minor Golf Tournament, three Casey Cares families will enjoy a Celebration Vacation.  Raising over $15,000 for the Casey Cares Foundation, this is the 4^th year their company has partnered with our charity. More than 172 participants joined in the fun at Piney Branch Golf Club in Hampstead, MD.

Their donation will send three families on special weekend getaways.  A family from PA and a family from VA will be able to take advantage of all the charms of Charm City and a family from Columbia, MD is vacationing in Allentown, PA, close to where their medical facility is located. 

Cliff Trone, Owens & Minor Account Manager for Johns Hopkins Hospital and Event Chairperson, commented, “With Owens & Minor being a distributor of medical products, we are able to do our part to assure that the medical facilities we service receive the products needed to help heal the children physically.  However, by teaming up with Casey Cares we are able to make a personal connection and to try to help heal their spirits so that they can just be kids.”

A huge thanks to John and Rick Sovero and Terry Ferro of 1^st Team Staffing for raising over $12,000 in support of our special programs at their annual golf tournament.  More than 100 participants joined in the fun at Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville, MD beginning with breakfast and followed by a picture-perfect day of golf, lunch, trophies, awards, raffles, auctions and a poignant speech by one of the families who the Casey Cares Foundation serves.  Congratulations go out to individual gross winner, Kevin Allis, with a 2 under par 70, and longest drive winner, Alek Ferro. 

 

Event chairperson, John Sovero, Vice-President of 1^st TEAM Staffing, commented, “We decided years ago to make sure our business success gives us opportunity to help our community.  While we are blessed with a healthy family, Casey Cares Foundation is a great way for us to help those families dealing with difficult health challenges.  A sick child can put quite a burden on a family both emotionally and financially.  We hope our efforts can help a family through a time of need or just put a smile on a child’s face.”

When it rains it pours! After hearing the devastating new about Casey Cares Foundation summer fire, Karina Polun knew she had to do something to help. On Thursday, August 9th she played host to “Divas on a Mission” at her picturesque home in Fallston.  More than 140 women battled downpour rain to celebrate a girls’ night out filled with pink boas, diamond bobbles and tiaras, while sipping on chocolate martinis. 

Representatives from Arbonne, Tastefully Simple, Initials LLC, Southern Living, Longaberger, Northern Lights, Avon, and Premier Design participated in the event and graciously donated their proceeds, as well as numerous raffle and auction items, to this great cause.  “I did it because we, as members of the community, can do something to help rebuild Casey Cares Foundation – an organization which has done so much for us and those we love,” gushed Karina.  More than $3,000 was raised for Casey Cares at this fabulous event.  A huge thanks to Karina and all the Divas for their support!

Just as the phoenix rose from the ashes in the mythical tale, the Casey Cares Foundation, with the support of hundreds of generous Baltimoreans, did just that on June 23rd at the Sheraton downtown.  The Casey Cares Foundation headquarters, which provides uplifting programs for critically ill children and their families, was completely ravaged by a 6 alarm fire on June 3rd.  Within a week an anonymous donor came forward to offer one of the ballrooms at the Sheraton downtown to hold a fundraiser.  With the help of the media and word of mouth and in just three weeks, the Phoenix Fest attracted over175 guests and countless donations from restaurants and caterers.  The charity raised over $7,000 towards its rebuilding effort.  

In less than eight days, Susan Wollenweber and Trish Webb helped plan this wonderful event highlighted with a buffet of food from Legal Seafood, Sam's Club of Catonsville, Chef's Expression, Great Day Cafe, Classic Caterers, Atlantic Caterers, and a chocolate display donated by Parfections.  The table centerpieces, from Radanbaugh's Florist, were accented by hundreds of paper kites that were created by first graders from New Towne Elementary School. 

Small Miracle played live music throughout the night, only stopping for a touching video produced by Northside Video Productions and a presentation by a special Casey Cares family.  The night would not have been so successful without the efforts of Randy Haber and Shelley Carter of the Sheraton City Center Hotel, and the help from so many supporters and guests.  Donating to the event as well were FedEx Kinkos and the great volunteers of Casey Cares. 

The mother of one of our Casey Cares kids stated immediately after the fire, “I was so saddened this morning when I saw on the news that your building was part of that horrible fire. Your organization has done so many wonderful things for my daughter Kamryn over the past three years and has helped us through some pretty rough times that my daughter and my family have had to go through.  Please, if there is anything that we could do to help, let us know.”  While there is still a long way to go to rebuild, with such support from our families and people and companies in the community, there is no doubt that Casey Cares Foundation will rise from the ashes and continue its important work with critically ill children and their families.

A huge thanks to Koffee Talk for organizing a fabulous guest bartending event at Hamden's famous Cafe Hon. Koffee Talk, recently rated one of the top 25 largest business networking organizations in the Baltimore area, supports philanthropic programs benefiting Baltimore's youth. Third Time’s a Charm for Owens & Minor, Inc.
For the third year in a row, we salute Owens & Minor, Inc for sending our families on much-needed Celebration Vacations.  Owens & Minor, along with our friends at Becton Dickinson and Company, raised over $5,000 for our programs during their annual golf tournament played at Piney Branch Golf Club in Hampstead on July 12th.  This admirable event began years ago to honor an employee who had lost their battle with cancer.

Thanks to their generosity, ten year old Emily was able to take a break from her Leukemia treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and enjoy a memorable weekend at Hershey Park with her family.  Maryland’s own Ocean City was the place that four year old Jessica and her family selected to vacation at.  Four year old Jessica suffers from Seizure Disorder and is also a patient at Johns Hopkins.  Both families attended the event’s evening festivities and got a chance to meet everyone themselves, which was a very special moment.  Longtime Casey Cares supporter and friend, Debbie Pritchard, stated, “The kids actually give us support, encouragement, and strength, and I love being with them.”

After a sunny day of golf followed by a scrumptious dinner, the players sat and listened intently to Emily’s story.  With the poise and humor of an adult, Emily spoke about her disease and how much the programs of the Casey Cares Foundation have helped her cope.  Both families were thrilled when provided with goody bags and other special gifts for their time away.  Of course, we could not do it without supporters like Cliff Trone, Debbie Pritchard, Sandie Miller, and the rest of the Owens & Minor staff who have been true friends to our foundation throughout the years in so many ways.

On July 28th, 2007 motorcycle enthusiasts combined their love of riding with a passion for raising money for our kids. The proud members of the Sons of The American Legion Detachment of Maryland held their 3rd annual ride to benefit the Casey Cares Foundation. The event originated at the Reisterstown Post, with stops along the way for food and fun in Perryville, Centreville, and Annapolis. The ride ended back where it began, raising over $4,200 for our uplifting children’s programs. A huge thank you to Bear Weinzirl and all of our SAL friends.  Ride on!!
