A Day at the Zoo for a Special Family
Saturday, April 5, 2008
(Casey Cares Foundation)With treatment schedules and trying to keep
your child healthy, you sometimes forget to be
a “normal” family. That’s why Casey Cares
arranged for a special visit for an area family
through our Family Festivities Program to the
Maryland Zoo. Charles, a docent at the
Maryland Zoo, and Jeff, a freelance
photographer, met twelve year old Anna and her
family at the gates of the Zoo for a rare and
special behind the scenes tour of the zoo. Anna,
suffering from Embroyonal Sarcoma of the liver,
is currently being treated at Sinai Hospital.
Anna’s mom Liz gushed, “To
all of you and the Zoo staff - Saturday, you
allowed my daughters, husband and me to have
some extremely wonderful memories that we will
cherish all of our lives. When I explain
to people about our experience at the Zoo, it
wasn't just the animals. The animals were
great, wonderful, awesome, and
incredible. But it was the people who
helped us, who showed us, taught us, laughed
with (and at) us, and loved us that made the
day utterly unbelievable.”
A very
specials thanks goes out to Charles and Shirley
Smith, Gil Kuta, Jeff Bill, Brenda Pound and
the entire Baltimore Zoo staff for caring for
one of our families.
