Over 250 masked guests filled the Grand Lodge, Bonnie Blink in Hunt Valley on Saturday March 28, 2009, for the Casey Cares Foundation’s Masquerade Gala. Lovecraft’s jazz filled the hall during cocktail hour as guests mingled with the duo of Batman and Robin, Miss Maryland USA Gabrielle Carlson, and Miss Teen Maryland Kasey Staniszewski. Guests had their faces painted by Laural Hargadon Make-up Artistry, portraits taken by J.Thomas Photography and attempted to win one of the half carat diamonds generously donated by Nelson Coleman Jewelers. After dinner, Casey Baynes, and Gala Chair, Marcus Aiello presented the three 2009 Champion of Children awards. Most Valuable Kids and their founders Beth and Daryle Bobb received the award for consistently donating hard to get tickets like Ravens, Redskins, and Capitals games to our families. Just last week, they gave us four floor seats to a Wizards game! Graphix Unlimited receieved the award for donating over $30,000 worth of printed materials since 2004. The DiMayo Family Foundation received the award for their enormous role in helping Casey Cares grow through personal donations, recruiting new donors, and chairing the Rock N’ Roll Bash each September.
After, guests gathered to watch “The Kenzie Story”, a heartfelt video that follows the life of 11 year old MacKenzie, who joined our programs in 2006 after she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. There was not a dry eye in the house as the credits rolled, and MacKenzie and her family received a standing ovation as they thanked everyone for supporting the Casey Cares Foundation. Board members Gil Kuta and Mike DiMayo ran the live auction as guests bid generously on sports items, vacations, and children’s parties. Everyone was in for a special treat as Doughjangles founder, 12 year old Aaron Ware arrived with a surprise auction item- dessert for a table. Congratulations to both Mike McCabe and Marcus Aiello for winning the Doughjangles cookies-over $2500 was brought in from those two generous donors!!
This year’s event brought in over $100,000 for the families served by Casey Cares. The DiMayo Family Foundation was our top sponsor at the Platinum Level and Deutsche Bank, Brandon Home Furnishing, Morrison Management Specialists, and a sponsorship in memory of Georgia Farantos filled the Gold Level. Silver Sponsors included the Sons of the American Legion, MedStar Health, Quaker Funds, and American Bank. Goodman-Gable-Gould/Adjusters, Int’l and Robert W. Baird Company sponsored the event at the bronze level. Long time supporters of Casey Cares, ICCO Cheese Company and Inno-Pak also gave their support to this year’s gala.
Media sponsors Mix 106.5, Comcast, Clear Channel Outdoor, VMS, Modern Babies and Children Magazine, Maryland Family Magazine, and Baltimore Magazine promoted the event while R&R Events, Jen Seidel Body Painter, and Atlantic Catering made the evening a night to remember with great food and décor. A special thanks to Graphix Unlimited, Signs by Tomorrow, and Julie Bower Graphic Designer for our printed materials.
It was a wonderful night made possible only with the support of our donors, supporters, Board of Directors, and Casey Cares staff. Save the date for next year, Saturday, March 27th at the Grand Lodge!
