Volunteer Spotlight March
Monday, March 19, 2012
Abraham Lincoln once said, "No man stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child." The "man" in this case are the men and women of MedStar Health. The "child" referred to is really the many suffering children and their families who Casey Cares serves. Our volunteer of the month is not just one volunteer - but many employees of a company who has made Casey Cares their passion over the years.
The mission of MedStar Health is to serve their patients, those who care for them, and their communities. Casey Cares can attest to MedStar Health certainly serving their communities. MedStar Health has been instrumental in so many of the Casey Cares programs. They have donated gift cards towards our Kami's Jammies Comfort Kits that go directly to patients at area hospitals who need a "pick-me-up." Families who need a weekend away from the stress they're under on Celebration Vacations receive restaurant gift cards from donations made by MedStar. Linda and Erin of MedStar collect Coca Cola tops from everyone they know and cash them in for rewards like movie tickets and restaurant gift certificates to go to Casey Cares families. Employees have donated tickets for the Raven's, O's, Blasts, and other events and items over the years. MedStar also donates money from their "soda fund" to our Holiday Giving Program yearly.
Since 2004, the company has sponsored the Annual Gala and Golf & Tennis Tournaments readily providing both funds and volunteers. MedStar Health was also instrumental in the early days of Casey Cares Foundation. Nearly a dozen past and present Board Members came to us through MedStar inlcuding Past President Lee Himmel and our legal counsel Carl Jean-Baptiste Jr.
For their generosity and dedication over many years, and a relationship we truly appreciate, we are very honored to present MedStar Health with our Volunteer of the Month for March, 2012.
