Caring Connections Pirate and Sailing Party

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Ahoy Mates!  Captains from the Downtown Sailing Center and the Urban Pirates have synchronized a sailing adventure the likes of which Baltimore has never seen!  They invited critically ill children and their families from Casey Cares to the Baltimore Harbor to escape their woes for the day.  This swashbuckling event was part of the Caring Connections Party Program which encourages families to meet and support each other while having fun during themed group activities.

Families chose to sail around the Harbor and enjoyed the sense of empowerment, relaxation and general well-being that sailors enjoy – or they chose to fight enemies with water cannons and discover hidden treasures onboard a pirate ship on Urban Pirates!  Planned throughout the year, Casey Cares group parties serve as wonderful opportunities for families to surround themselves with companionship and support.  Having a common bond, the children lose themselves in the fun and make fast friends; their parents meet, empathize, and even learn from other parents enduring similar treatments for complicated diseases.

When they returned from their expeditions, they had lunch, donated in part by Costco and Dunkin Donuts, and were entertained by Pan Fried Steel playing music, Very Much the Clown's Vera Gabriel doing a magic show, and Steve Shuman's Kona Ice Truck donating snow cones to all of our families.  Thank you for making this day so special for our families!
