Having a Ball with the Phillies

Thursday, August 23, 2012

This past week, five year old Jonathan and his family experienced a professional baseball game for the first time as guests of the Phillies.  And it was a winning game, at that!  Jonathan, from Lawrenceville, NJ, is being treated for a rare form of cancer at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  He was diagnosed at the end of February and has since undergone chemotherapy, surgery to remove the tumor, radiation and more chemo that will run through November.

Their family received a behind-the-scenes tour, watched batting practice, met some of the players, and even received a ball from Manager Charlie Manuel.

“Jonathan and his sisters loved the whole experience and it was a special time our family will never forget,” said Shinna, Jonathan’s mom. “With Jonathan's diagnosis and treatment, it's been a challenging, life-changing year for our family, and this evening was such a happy memory for us. Thanks for giving us this opportunity. Thanks for caring and making a difference in our lives!”
