Miles for Smiles

 Running between the raindrops, close to 500 runners and walkers came out to help raise money for critically ill children at the Casey Cares 3rd Annual 5K on Sunday, October 7th, 2012 with Baltimore Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis and his wife Christina kicking off the event.  St. Pierre from WPOC-FM served as the emcee.

Congratulations to Mike Knick from Towson as our male overall winner with a time of 17:41.7 and Megan DiGregorio from White Marsh as our overall female winner at 18:33.6.  Seth Tibbits from Sparks and Keith Lucas from Phoenix came in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The 3.1 mile run/walk course began at Pulse Health and Fitness Club in Sparks, MD with individuals, teams, families and even Casey Cares families taking part in this annual event raising a record amount of over $40,000 this year.

“My wife, Christina and I are so honored to be the ambassadors for the Casey Cares 5K,” stated Nick Markakis.  “As the Founders of The Right Side Foundation, we truly support the mission of Casey Cares as it holds true to our own mission.”

Top sponsors included Tricerat, Care First Blue Cross Blue Shield, Ivy Envelope Services, the Goddard School, MASN and 93.1 WPOC-FM.

Thank you to Bob Gaffney, Craig Longenecker and the rest of the 5K committee for heading up such a great event for Casey Cares.  Due to the efforts of the committee, sponsors, runners and walkers, the proceeds from this event will enable scores of Casey Cares families to receive sporting event tickets next year.
