Busch Gardens Christmas Town

Busch Garden's Christmas Town was quite an experience for Angel. She had a BLAST enjoying the Christmas lights and carols, night rides, the shows while dining, etc. Angel didn’t even complain of the long line for the live baby penguins (not figurines or stuff toys). She was fascinated with their swimming & how cute they looked. Deck the Halls was the last show we watched and that was a very superb lively performance that you just wanted to join the performers with their dancing....

I want to share with you our experience from Sunday. It was absolutely wonderful!!! I kept it a surprise until the very last possible minute. The convention center was so amazing it was a bit overwhelming for me, I could only imagine how it was for Jasmin. The show was interesting to say the least, but Jasmin enjoyed it especially seeing Paula Deen "for real" as she would say. We both took lots of pictures and I will share as soon as I get them off my camera (I'm waiting until after th...

On behalf of the Department of Pediatrics and the Child Life Program at Georgetown University Hospital, we thank the Casey Cares Foundation for all of the wonderful work that they do. A child and their family’s world is turned upside down when they are diagnosed with a chronic and/or life threatening illness. All that is normal is taken away abruptly, and they are forced to juggle with hospitalizations, medications, clinic appointments, scans, and so much more.

He also spent one last time at Camp Sunrise(A camp for children with cancer). Lauren (our intern and former Casey Cares patient) was able to be his counselor and it was a fun time for him.
In 2003 at the age of 13, I was diagnosed with stage four Medullo Blastoma, a pediatric cancerous brain tumor. I spent a year and half in and out of the hospital receiving surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation. While in treatment I refused to participate in the hospital activities provided to sick children such as arts and crafts, bingo, video games, and a weekly support group for teens. At home I laid in bed and slept. I planned to get through it and not get involved and be “the ca...

For me, that person was Erin Webb Ritter. She took me in as a 'data diva' volunteer at the worst point in my life, listened as I talked...and talked...and talked about a project...

Reflections on Casey Cares Experience

I only needed to do a 10-hour internship for my Advanced Public Relations class at Goucher College. But I knew that I wanted to work somewhere that really makes a difference. The Casey Cares Foundation was the one nonprofit organization that stood out to me, and for many reasons. But then I thought about whether I should be a part of something that has such a profound effect on children’s lives. I mean, what could I possibly have to offer, especially for such a short period of time? Then I...

A couple of tickets to an event like Disney on Ice or an Oriole game mean a lot when your family is in the battle of their life. How many times do you see 1st Mariner Arena has Disney on Ice coming and you think “Hey I should take the little ones to see that”…then you get busy and forget or maybe money is a bit tight so you decide not this time.

It reminds me that our Casey Cares families are fighting a battle to make their child a survivor of their critical illness. This illness has many times taken over their entire family and changed it forever. The phone calls are a stark reminder of what their lives are really like.
